Rainbow Eucalyptus Abstract 01
Kona Cloud Forest Sactuary - Kona, Hawai'i.
While visiting Hawai'i, we had the opportunity to embark on a private photo tour of the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. Before the sanctuary opened to the public, we were given a two-hour window to explore the site undisturbed. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, we learned about the sanctuary's unique ecosystems and its significance. Situated on The Big Island, the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary proved to be a captivating and visually striking destination, leaving a lasting impression on us and our photographs.
What drew us to the sanctuary was the opportunity to photograph Rainbow Eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus deglupta). These remarkable trees, native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, exhibit a spectacle of colors that seem to dance along their trunks. The rainbow eucalyptus lives up to its name in a breathtaking display of natural artistry. As the bark peels away, patches of green, orange, maroon, and even turquoise are revealed. This unique phenomenon occurs as the tree sheds its outer layers, exposing the inner bark to sunlight and allowing chlorophyll and other pigments to create this stunning palette.
